LMYC EMAIL BROADCAST - MARCH 2010
2nd March 2010

A NOTE FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER

Hello again members

Firstly I must start with a big thank you to those members that took groups out in the recent Accountants and Gloucester Rotary Charity race days.  Without your support (both in the use of your yachts and the donation of your valuable time) these events could not be held.  Do not forget that these events are what expose the public to our great sport, and keeps the tills ticking over in quiet week days.

As the end of Sailing season approaches we start to think about the celebration of the season at our presentation nights.  These nights have been marked down for Saturday night the 1st and 8th of May 2010.  Some quality entertainment has been booked for these events and a new catering option will be on offer as well.  So lock these dates in your diary now.

I must also remind you all that it is now time to renew your membership.  With the tight economic climate it gives me great pleasure to let you know that social membership is now more attainable at the low rate of $20 per year.  So I encourage you to sign up your spouses, family and friends to entice more people to your club.  Don’t forget that as a member everyone enjoys special privileges such as bar discounts, special function room hire rates and starting this year a Members Christmas Bonus.

As mentioned in the last email broadcast our new Friday evening activities kick off this Friday night the 5th of March 2010.

The Mega meat & Voucher raffle goes on sale at 6pm and is drawn at the conclusion of the twilight race (will be drawn at 7.15pm when sailing season concludes).

Bar trivia kicks off at 6pm as well with any bar purchase and the winner is drawn after the raffle.

And last but not least our Live Entertainment starts at 8pm.

Click the link below to print off your free $10 raffle voucher to use at any Friday Raffle (members card must be shown on redemption & a limit of 1 voucher per person per night applies)

SAILING INFORMATION

A boatowners meeting has been called for 0900hrs on Saturday March 27 to discuss the sailing program of 2009/2010 and receive suggestions for the 2010/2011 program. The meeting will be held in the Bridgedeck Room at LMYC and will end no later than 1100 hrs

Offshore racing concluded last weekend with races to and from RMYC Broken Bay. Our Combined Offshore Pointscore run in conjunction with NCYC has proven very successful with increased fleet sizes (19 boats raced to Pittwater) and good camaraderie at the various destinations. Congrats to NCYC Rear Commodore Paul Gleeson and the crew of Summer Salt on their overall win in the COP. Second was Niven James (LMYC) in Menace while Peter White (LMYC) in Xstatic placed third. The race to Pittwater was won by Rob Hiliery (NCYC) in his Hereschoff 28 Warrain while Andrew Grover (LMYC) won a slow return race in Bindaroo.

It was great to see our bigger deep drafted yachts able to negotiate Swansea Channel and put to sea at the weekend. Let’s hope that the authorities can find a way to keep the channel as it is now !!

Another series that concluded last weekend was our Sweepstake Championship Series .This short series is run on the Saturdays when ocean racing is programmed and was won this year by Peter Shaddock in Even Keel

Next weekend March 6 and 7 is the big Tooheys  Sunsail Regatta. With prizes like a -5 night charter yacht in the Whitsundays (courtesy Sunsail), a party with a keg from Tooheys and great food from Saltwater Grill, a free slipping jetwash and labour from Jim Rochi’s JR Marine ,wine vouchers, rum , and lots more – all to be won we are expecting a big turnout for both Saturday and Sunday. Entry can be for either day or both days and yachts can compete either with or without spinnakers. Entries close in a few days. See www.lmyc.com.au/upcomingregattas for entry forms and sailing instructions

The NSW International Etchell Class Championships were sailed on Sydney Harbour last weekend and the two LMYC reps Absolute Pearler Peter McNeill and Why be Flat Kane Sinclair placed 5th and 7th respectively.

Congratulations to Bruce Dobinson and the crew of Excess on their handicap win in the reintroduced Open Lake Championship sailed on Feb 21.Bruce capped a good month with a win in the Rotary Sailing Day on Feb 26.
